What Therapy Actually Is

Ask ten therapists and you'll get ten answers. Here's mine.

At its core, it comes down to three things:

  1. Figuring out what you actually want and need.
  2. Figuring out what's in the way of it.
  3. Figuring out how to get it.

Add in the complexity of an actual life and real personal history, and sure, it gets more complicated. But the goal doesn't change. Therapy should produce something you can use, not just something you can talk about.

What that "something" looks like is different for everyone. Figuring it out together is the first part of the job.

Detours happen, and sometimes they're worth taking. But you came here for a reason, and keeping that reason in view is on me as much as it's on you.

There's only one agenda in this room. It's yours.

Validated

Evidence-based methods, zero pretense. Room to wander, as long as we're headed somewhere.

Direct

No "safe space" language, no soft landings. I talk straight, and I expect the same back.

Let's take all this space we're holding and do something with it.
How it works
01 Step 1

Consultation

Schedule a free video call with Brian using the booking link. Ask the questions you need and discuss treatment options.

02 Step 2

Intake

I'll cover your history, collaborate on a treatment plan, set goals for therapy, and develop a schedule that works for you.

03 Step 3

Recurring Sessions

Weekly, focused sessions where we put the plan into practice — not just talk about it. I track what's working, push where it counts, and adjust as we go.

Methods I use
01 ACT

Acceptance & Commitment

Make room for what's hard, and act on what matters anyway.

02 CBT

Cognitive Behavioral

Take apart the thought patterns that keep you stuck, piece by piece.

03 MI

Motivational Interviewing

Plus mindfulness — practical tools, not textbook theory.
